Carrig Dance

Carrigaline First Sunday Ceili

We have been promising a regular Irish Ceili in Seattle for a long time. We are finally getting around to delivering. Mark you r calendars for the First Sunday of each month. Doric Lodge in Fremont (Free Parking on Sundays in Fremont). Everybody welcome; dancers, musicians, kitchen helpers and onlookers. Suggested donation will include everyone and the place is easy to find.

A Ceili is a lot more than traditional Irish dancing and we are planning to make it a Family event where children and adults will learn and practice dancing to live music. The dances are traditional and include line dances like The Siege of Ennis, The Walls of Limerick and The Haymakers Jig. Instructors will help beginners and everyone will have an opportunity to get on the floor and dance to their ability without any pressure. We will also teach the Waltz, Hornpipe and basic steps for social dancing e..g., The Statue Dance.

Lots food and time for Irish language and listening to musicians while you chat with new and old friends….

The Ceili

At the Ceili we danced the following dances – having practiced the basic step. One two three…)

Baint an Fheir =Haymaker’s Jig, a lively dance that focuses on a group of fave couplets who dance together in a closed system. Tops, Ends and middle group. The dance advances through so that each couple dances a role in every position.

Ionsai na h-Inse = Siege of Ennis, is a double couple dance that involves the basic movements – advance retire, Sidestep,  Swing and advance.

Fallai Luimni = Walls of Limerick, a beautiful couple dance that progresses down the ling line. Advance retire, Crossover, Star/swing and advance.

Hornpipe, waltz and simple game dances help round out the fun. See you soon….

Get up the Yard…..
